This exotic men's black braided rope necklace boasts a large, single barbed fishhook hand-carved from smooth black jade.

The fishhook, or hei matau in Maori tribal language, was a necessary survival tool for New Zealand's indigenous settlers, as it provided life-giving sustenance from the sea. Only the most revered and powerful members of the tribe could wear fishhooks around their neck.

Thousands of years later, the hei matau fishhook is still an important Maori symbol representing good luck, authority, and prosperity. Wearing a fishhook pendant today will identify you as man of benevolent authority who shares his good fortune with others.

Jade, called pounamu in Maori tribal language, is considered to be a sacred stone that absorbs the warmth and spiritual essence, or mana, of its owner. Maybe someday you will pass this symbolic fishhook and your spiritual mana on to the next generation of your family, so your benevolence can be continued.

Size: The pendant measures 1 3/8 inches tall and 1 5/16 inches wide. The rope cord is 26 1/2 inches long and 3/32 inch thick. The necklace's length can be shortened by moving a cylindrical black bead to adjust the cord.

Material: Genuine Hand-Carved Black Jade. Black Braided Rope.
