The volcanic textures are achieved through reticulation — a metalsmith forging technique that uses direct flame to heat the bronze to a molten state.
John Hardy's substantial silver curb links of the necklace's chain are finished with a blackened oxidization that adds a dark smokiness to the silver pendant that complements the fiery color of the bronze.
