Our Hei Matau is expertly hand carved from a thick and sturdy piece of creamy white animal bone. Three barbs extend from the hook's side, looking strong and sharp enough to snag a mighty game fish.

The front of the hook is engraved with a textured matrix of geometric lines resembling sacred Maori body tattoos, signifying a person's social rank, wealth, and achievements.

The back of the hook is polished until it's smooth as glass. The bone will become warm with your body's heat, making the fishhook feel like part of your skin.
